Why we built it
The service economy often faces a blind spot in carbon accounting. While manufacturing and logistics have long benefited from physical emissions tracking, intellectual and service-based activities are still widely measured using financial proxies, which lack accuracy and reliability.
We needed a better way. A method grounded in physical data that could offer precise, science-aligned insights into the real carbon impact of our work. So we built it.
Carbon Brainprint was born during the Mantu Impackathon, our internal innovation challenge focused on sustainability. What started as a winning idea quickly grew into a fully operational tool, first piloted across our brands such as Amaris Consulting, Arneo and LittleBig Connection, and now rolled out to clients eager to better understand and act on their supply chain emissions.
What makes Carbon Brainprint an innovation
Unlike traditional methods that estimate emissions based on spend, Carbon Brainprint uses physical indicators – like time spent, energy use, equipment usage – to evaluate the carbon impact of service delivery. This methodology results in more accurate, granular, and actionable data.
Designed with adaptability in mind, Carbon Brainprint is:
Transparent: the methodology is now open source, offering full visibility into how calculations are made.
Customizable: it can be tailored to the unique operations of different consulting firms or service providers.
Collaborative: by opening the methodology, we aim to foster a shared standard across the industry, accelerating progress and enabling benchmarking.
