The market for change management framework options is crowded: Kotter, Prosci ADKAR, McKinsey 7-S, Lewin, Bridges, Nudge Theory, and more. Each has advocates, each has evidence of success, and each has conditions under which it works best. The challenge for transformation leaders is not finding a framework it is choosing the right one for the specific change at hand, and knowing how to adapt it when the theory meets organizational reality.

Organizational transformations are only possible if a structured process is in place. Phases of change management exist precisely because organizations and the people within them need different things at different moments in a transformation and what works in the preparation stage will not work in the embedding stage.

Getting this sequencing right is one of the highest-leverage decisions in any change management process.
